Shopping for a new air conditioner can feel overwhelming. Model numbers, SEER2 ratings, and single-stage versus variable-speed all start to blur together. The good news is that choosing the right system comes down to a few simple questions: what's your budget, how long will you stay in your home, and what bugs you about your current A/C?
At Service First, we install four Carrier air conditioners. Here's a plain-language look at each one, so you can find the right fit.
Carrier Comfort™ 14 Air Conditioner (26SCA4)
Best for: Homeowners who want reliable cooling at an affordable price.
The Comfort 14 is Carrier's no-frills workhorse. It's built to be simple, efficient, and dependable, without the cost of premium features you may never use.
- Up to 16 SEER2 efficiency
- Single-stage operation with a simple, durable design
- Standard comfort features at an entry-level price
Why you'll like it: If your current system is 12–15 years old, the Comfort 14 can noticeably lower your summer electric bills, and it's backed by the Carrier name. It's also a smart pick for rental properties or homes you don't plan to stay in long-term.
Carrier Performance™ 16 Air Conditioner (26SPA6)
Best for: Homeowners balancing today's budget with long-term savings.
The Performance 16 sits in the sweet spot. You get more efficiency and smarter technology than an entry-level unit, without stepping up to a premium price.
- Performance-series efficiency built for long-term energy savings
- InteliSense™ technology that monitors how your system is running
- Proven Carrier Performance platform
Why you'll like it: You spend a little more upfront and get it back month after month on your cooling bill. The smart monitoring adds peace of mind that your system is running the way it should.
Carrier Performance™ 18 Air Conditioner (26TPA8)
Best for: Homes with hot spots, sticky air, or a system that blasts on and off.
The Performance 18 adds a two-stage compressor. Instead of running full blast every time, it runs on a lower, gentler setting most of the time and ramps up only on the hottest days.
- Up to 18 SEER2 efficiency
- Two-stage compressor for consistent comfort
- Enhanced humidity control
- InteliSense™ technology for system monitoring
Why you'll like it: Longer, gentler run times mean more even temperatures from room to room, drier air, quieter operation, and lower cooling costs. In a humid summer, drier air makes your home feel cooler at the same thermostat setting.
Carrier Infinity® 21 Air Conditioner (26VNA1)
Best for: Homeowners who want the best comfort, efficiency, and quiet available.
The Infinity 21 is Carrier's flagship air conditioner. Its variable-speed operation adjusts continuously to match exactly what your home needs at any moment.
- Up to 21 SEER2, ultra-high efficiency
- Variable-speed operation
- Whisper-quiet performance
- Premium comfort features designed for a complete Infinity system
Why you'll like it: You get steady temperatures, excellent humidity control, a system you'll barely hear, and the lowest cooling bills of the lineup. If you plan to stay in your home for years, it delivers the biggest long-term return.

The Right System Starts With the Right Install
Even the best air conditioner underperforms if it's the wrong size or installed poorly. An oversized unit cools fast but shuts off before removing humidity, leaving your home cold and clammy. Service First sizes every system for your actual home and installs it to Carrier's specifications.
